Mentorships

Anita Lakner (Choral Specialist)

In 2016, a Youth Choral Mentorship Project with Slovenian Choral Director, Anita Lakner took place in Tralee. The initiative was co-funded by Kerry County Council Arts Office and the Arts Council and supported by Kerry Education and Training Board. The initiative provided an opportunity for young singers to receive expert advice and guidance from a world-renowned choral specialist. The project culminated in a wonderful Christmas recital with children performing a number of Christmas songs from around the world.

Kevin Gleeson (Composer)

In 2015, composer Kevin Gleeson delivered a mentorship programme to a number of young composers identified during his time as Kerry County Council Composer-in-Residence. The mentorship was co-funded by Kerry County Council and the Arts Council. Two talented young composers, Sarah Finnan and Lorraine Nash, were facilitated in recording a CD of their original compositions. The CD was launched at KDYS in Killarney in January 2016. Walking On Cars (Band)

With funding from Kerry County Council and the Arts Council and support from Kerry Education and Training Board, KMEP was delighted to have nationally-renowned group Walking On Cars, from Dingle, Co. Kerry, mentor a number of young Kerry-based bands in January 2014. Three local bands, Walter & Co (Dingle), Mad Alice (Killarney) and Jousting with Chairs (Tralee) participated in the initiative which aimed to develop higher standards of practice in contemporary and popular music performance. The initiative was extremely well received by the county’s young musicians.
